At Pioneer Bank, we’re proud to stand with our community in recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15. One of the most heartbreaking and underreported forms of elder abuse is financial exploitation — and it can happen to anyone.
We’re committed to helping protect our seniors by staying alert for the red flags of elder financial abuse. The key is noticing changes in established financial patterns. You can help by watching for:
🔴 Unusual withdrawals or account transfers
🔴 A new “best friend” accompanying an older customer to the bank
🔴 NSF fees, unpaid bills, or closed accounts without explanation
🔴 Confusion about transactions or new, complex accounts
🔴 Suspicious signatures or checks written as “gifts”
🔴 Missing bank statements or new powers of attorney
🔴 Caregivers suddenly taking financial control without proper documentation
If something feels off, say something. Our staff is trained to recognize and respond to these warning signs to help keep our customers safe. Together, we can fight elder fraud and preserve the dignity and financial security of those who came before us.
💜 Wear purple on June 15 to show your support and help raise awareness.
